Lawrence “Larry” Clinton Baker Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully in Florence, Colorado, on May 1, 2025. He was born on June 14, 1939, in Windsor, Pennsylvania.
Larry is survived by the love of his life, Beryl Baker, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years. He is also survived by his son, Lawrence (Larry) Baker III, his sister, Gail Ropp, seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Christina; his parents, Lawrence Baker and Bernetta Baker; and his sister, Patsy Rexroth. Larry took great pride in his family and served as an excellent example of a loving provider who valued quality time together.
A keen businessman and talented contractor, Larry built a prosperous career as the owner of Fairfax Ace Hardware in Denver, Colorado. For 34 years, he worked side by side with Beryl and their family to grow a business that became a cornerstone of the local community. Under his leadership, Fairfax Ace Hardware became more than just a store—it was a gathering place where relationships were built and neighbors supported one another. His dedication, integrity, and kindness left a lasting impression on generations of customers and employees alike.
Larry was an adventurous and curious soul, committed to lifelong learning and giving back. He was an accomplished commercial hot air balloon pilot, scuba diver, and world traveler. He had a gift for creating meaningful experiences and memories through his generosity, wit, and mischievous humor, especially with his family. A visionary with natural skill, Larry renovated multiple properties and most recently assisted in the restoration of the historic Rialto Theater in Florence, Colorado.
He served as Mayor Pro Tem and was a dedicated member of the Florence City Council for over eight years. He was actively involved in more than a dozen community committees, including the Florence Rotary Club, the Rialto Theater Board of Directors, the Fremont County Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Prisoner Visitation and Support Program.
Larry’s legacy of hard work, love for family, and unwavering commitment to community will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A community celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Rialto Theater, 209 W Main St, Florence, CO 81226, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. MST. The family invites community members to share stories and experiences they had with Larry.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Larry by donating to the Rialto Theater. He would have also loved for you to extend a helping hand to a cause you believe in, invest in people and communities you love, and embrace adventure at every opportunity.
