It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Loren Allen Stevens, of Canon City, CO, on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. He took his final breath while on hospice care in Colorado Springs, CO. Beginning with a fall 6 months ago, Loren passed away from natural causes and medical mishaps due to understaffed rehabilitation care.
Loren and his wife Judy moved from Worthington, MN to Canon City on December 12, 2012. They recently marked their 50th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2024 and Loren’s 85th birthday on March 3, 2025.
Loren was born to Frank and Martha Stevens on the family farm in Chandler, MN where he grew up and attended school. He worked as an over the road truck driver, heavy equipment operator and foreman for Dwire Road Construction in Marshall, MN, TR Murphy Construction and Clark Taylor Made Grain Storage in Worthington, MN.
Loren is the father of Laura Snyder and Shane Stevens, by a previous marriage to Judith Ann Busch, before being united in marriage to Judy Hartman on December 31, 1974.
Loren is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Laura of Golden, CO, and Shane of Ferron, UT; sisters, Gayle Kruse of Mankato, MN, and Audrey Hunstock of Ames, IA; step-children, Carrie Henning of New London, WI, Tammy Hartman of Jackson, MN; grandchildren, Alexandra and Brayden Stevens of the Twin Cities area, MN; and several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles and his step-great-grandchild, Alyssa.
Loren most enjoyed horse back riding and many trail rides, highlighted by riding 700 miles of the Chief Joseph Appaloosa Trail Ride, from Joseph, OR to Haver, MT. He also enjoyed some hunting and fishing earlier in his life as well as llama and alpaca shows. He and Judy raised a multitude of animals and birds over the years including exotics, appaloosa horses, santa gertrudes cattle, goats, llamas and suri alpacas. Loren loved talking to people and sharing his many dog stories as he was loved by several wonderful, unique dogs who were with him every step of the way.
Loren was loved by all who knew him, and he worked way too hard all of his life.
