Loretta "Ruth" Miller Obituary

Loretta Ruth Stamps Miller, 85, of Florence, Colorado, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, surrounded by loving family members at her daughter’s home in Hot Springs, Virginia.

She was born February 21, 1939, in Manassa Colorado to Carl Lee Stamps and Norma Christensen Stamps. She was married for 66 years to the late Johnie (Bill) William Miller who preceded her in death on March 9, 2024.

Ruth was a domestic engineer. When her children were young, she was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Her love of the outdoors included camping, hiking and riding in the mountains with family and friends. She also enjoyed ice skating.

Ruth and Bill enjoyed making beautiful stained-glass pieces. They were also members of the Royal Gorge Square Dance Club. They danced on floats in several Apple Blossom Days Parades and many times on the Royal Gorge Bridge.

Ruth was an amazing quilter and seamstress. She was a proud member of the Needle and Eye Quilt Club and the Royal Gorge Quilt Council. She was the coordinator for the Royal Gorge Quilt Council Show for several years. Her quilts are beautiful true treasures.

As an artist she was very talented at making ceramic pieces, many of which are enjoyed by family members. She managed a ceramic shop in Leadville for several years.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and surrogate mother to many. She was the oldest of 13 children, preceded in death by 3 siblings and survived by 9 siblings.

Ruth is survived by four children, David Miller & Penny Ponder of Vancouver, Washington, Vicki Miller of Florence, Colorado, Sheri Cerise & husband Mike of Florence, Colorado and Debi Lowry & husband Jeff of Hot Springs, Virginia; 10 grandchildren plus spouses; 19 great grandchildren and multiple extended family members.

Celebration of Life is to be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, 10:30 am at the Holt Family Funeral Home, 806 Macon Ave, Canon City, CO 81212.
