Marie Schaarschmidt

Marie Schaarschmidt (Halter, Hugle) was born and raised in Germany, with her parents and two older sisters, Monica, Giesela and a younger brother, Herbert, who currently resides in Germany. 

In the 1950s, Marie followed her dream of coming to America. She stayed with relatives in Michigan, where she worked in the family store.

Later, she became a nanny and traveled with that family to several states. While living in New Jersey, she met her first husband, George. After he was drafted into the U.S. Army, Marie followed him back to Germany, where he was stationed near her hometown. There, she was reunited with her family, and she and George were married at the Army base. During their time on the base, they welcomed their first daughter, Roxann (Richie) Ventrella.

The young family later returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey, where their second daughter, Linda (Steve) Adamic, was born. Marie's greatest joy continued to grow as her family expanded with her grandchildren—granddaughters, Tahnee and Lana, and grandson, Destin. She had special relationships over the years with her son-in-law Richard V. and son-in-law Steve A. who were like sons to her.

Years later, at her luncheonette, Marie was visited by Rudy Schaarschmidt, who had recently lost his wife, and was also an old friend of Marie's first husband. Their friendship blossomed into love, and they were married in April 1989. After closing "Marie's Lunch" in 1994, they fulfilled Marie's lifelong dream of moving to Colorado. They made their home in Texas Creek, where they enjoyed many happy years together until Rudy's passing in 2013. Marie also remained close with Rudy's daughters, Ann and Stephanie, who continued to keep in touch with her throughout the years. They kept her up to date with all of their grandchildren.

After Rudy's death, Marie lived in two other Colorado communities and even spent a year in Arizona. In the end, she realized that beautiful Colorado was where she truly belonged and where she wanted to spend the rest of her life.
