Marlene Coonradt Obituary

Marlene Rose (Holycross) Coonradt, of Penrose, CO, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023. She was received into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Marlene was born on March 2, 1937. She was the daughter of Clayton and Nellie (Hughs) Holycross. She grew up and lived in Danville, IL. She raised and trained poodles and was a wonderful seamstress.

Marlene married Harold L. Coonradt on December 18, 1991. They enjoyed each other along with family and friends. Marlene and Harold loved to dance together, travel, go RVing, camp and attend many family reunions. Their passion was horses, whether they were raising them, riding them or driving them. Marlene was an avid English rider and loved Dressage. She enjoyed the freedom of just pleasure riding, but also liked to compete in riding and driving competitions. For 15 years after they were married, Marlene and Harold competed around the country in CDE’s (Combined Driving Events). They competed with a pair of Arabian geldings that they raised and trained themselves. They are considered among the best in this sport!

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Janice Youhas and Doris Blackford; and a brother, Richard Holycross.

She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Coonradt; her children, Robert Brandow of Penrose, CO and Lynn Knisley of Colorado Springs, CO; Lynn’s children, Eric (Shereen) Waterstradt and Brandon Neace; great-grandaughter, Hope Neace; and many step-children, Linda and Ron McFarlane of Canon City, CO, Bruce and Martha Coonradt of Annapolis, MD, Jenise and Michael Dalton of Penrose, CO, Brian and Joy Coonradt of Chelmsford, MA; as well as 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
