Merlin Garrett
November 4, 1946 - April 22, 2022
Merlin Garrett (75) went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2022. He was born on November 4, 1946, in Canon City, Colorado to Cecil and Eileen Garrett.
Mr. Garrett was Catholic in faith. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Blue Mesa and Eleven Mile Reservoirs, as well as any other body of water he could cast into. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends during holidays and special occasions. Merlin enjoyed watching Tom Brady and would gloat about his greatness to anyone who would listen. In fact, the only things Merlin loved more than Tom Brady were his cats G2 and Trouble, and his family.
Merlin enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1965 and was honorably discharged in March 1972. During enlistment, he served two tours in the Vietnam war and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal (1960). After the service, Merlin dedicated 33 years working for the railroad and became a conductor.
He is survived by his sister Maxine (Carl Bittner), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including his dearest friend, Abe.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Eileen Garrett, siblings Kenny, Stanley, Marie, Sharon, Marjorie, and Loretta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Wilson Funeral Home: 1449 S. 9th Street, Canon City, CO 81212.
