Michael McNicholas Obituary

Michael “Mike” Lawrence McNicholas joined the Lord on October 29, 2020 in Cañon City, Colorado.  The oldest of six children, Mike was born February 9, 1954 to John and Jean McNicholas at the air force base in Burtonwood, Warrington England.

When Mike was young, he and his family moved to Newark, New Jersey.  A few years later, they moved to Kokomo, as John began a career at Climax.  A short time later, the family moved to Leadville, where Mike attended high school.  During his high school years, Mike worked at Kristie Lanes bowling alley and bowled in multiple leagues.  In 1974, Mike went to work at Climax until it closed in 1982.  In 2016, Mike moved to Cañon City to live with his sister, Kathy, her husband, Dewayne and their son, Jonathan.

Mike loved to study meteorology.  He looked at the weather models every single day and predicted the weather for the upcoming week.  One of his priorities was to keep his family updated on incoming weather.  He was surprisingly accurate, which is why he was given the nickname “Stormy” by his brother Terry.

Mike loved to take trips to Ponca City, Oklahoma to visit his three daughters and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.  He loved gold panning, golf, football, bowling and camping with friends and family.  He also enjoyed trips to the cabin in San Isabel.

He was a very kind, caring person who was always quick to help anyone in need.  Mike’s sense of humor and contagious smile brought joy and laughter to everyone who crossed his path.  He was a true blessing, and his life impacted many.

Mike is survived by his three daughters, Kaydee (Ron) Cerise, Michelle (Phillip) Blochowiak, Amiee McNicholas, all of Ponca City, Oklahoma; five siblings, Pat McNicholas, Sean (Deneb) McNicholas, Colleen (Scott) Marcella, sister-in-law, Debbie McNicholas, all of Leadville, and Kathy (Dewayne) Babb of Cañon City; eight grandchildren, Kaylee, Alexia and Hunter Cerise, Kiersten, Mason, Felicity and Grayson Blochowiak, and Trever McNicholas, all of Ponca City, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean McNicholas and brother, Terrance McNicholas.
