Monica Ruth Hinson was born on March 21, 1941, to Jack and Virginia (Day) Kelley in Winfield, KS and grew up in the small town of Arkansas City.
Monica was decidedly social and was quick to count people as friends. Fun-loving and animated, she was always young at heart and especially enjoyed children. People overwhelmingly describe her as loving, serving, and forgiving; Most of all, she was known for her strong faith in Jesus.
Monica loved deeply. She looked for any excuse to dance. She valued the arts, was an adventurous traveler, and poured herself into whatever she did. She was generous with her hugs and always welcomed guests into her home, impacting countless lives through her hospitality, friendship and mentoring.
She reached the end of her journey here on earth on January 17, 2023, where she passed peacefully at home with her family.
She will be missed by many, including her husband, Paul; four children: Robert (Alexis) Buzzi of Grand Lake, OK, Lisa (Brian) Bullock of Elbert, CO, Heather (Doug) Doolen of Castle Rock, CO, and Joanna (Chris) McIntyre of Cañon City, CO; 15 grandchildren (Ariana, Adam, Winter, Conor, Matthew and Gabe McIntyre; Hannah Merrick, Sarah Doolen, Rachel Doolen, Lauren Rhoadarmer, Sydney Bullock, Kailey Galaz, Alatje Donaldson, Arika Beitler, and Aubrey Anderson); and 10 great-grandchildren (Amelia, Evelyn, Elouise, Charlie, Sam, Jack, Elly, Brooks, Millianna, and Maverick).
A memorial service celebrating Monica’s life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 21, at Royal Gorge Vineyard Church (629 Harrison Ave, Cañon City, CO). There will also be a service in Kansas in the coming spring.
