Muriel Cecilia (Lawrence) Witkowski

Muriel C. Witkowski, a long-term resident of Cañon City, passed away February 14, 2021 following a brief illness.
          Muriel was born November 5, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived in Cleveland and Baltimore, Maryland.  In 1949, she married Marion J. Witkowski.  The couple moved several times during their years together, as Marion advanced in his career as a chemist, along with his various gypsum plant management responsibilities.

During her working years, Muriel held several secretarial positions and later obtained a degree in library science. She volunteered as a librarian at St. Michael Catholic Church and at the Holy Cross Abbey. Her love of craft work was often on display at St. Michael’s Annual Craft Bazaar. She was also a member of the local Garden Club.
          Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; her parents; sister, Patti; brother, Donald and granddaughter, Erin Hackman.

She is survived by her daughters, Cecilia (Rick) Hackman, of Gardnerville, Nevada; TerriBeth Rohr, of Cañon City; grandchildren, Corrine (Nate) Hogan, of Florence, Vanessa (Jason) Messer, of Cañon City, Linda Garcia, of Pueblo; great-grandchildren, Alison, Madison and Chase Messer, Elliana Hogan and Ayden Hackman.
          The family wishes to thank Sangre de Cristo Hospice for their compassion during Muriel’s final days.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Muriel’s name to Loaves and Fishes, 241 Justice Center Rd., Cañon City, CO 81212.

Memorial Mass, 10am Wednesday, February 24, 2021, St. Michael Catholic Church in Cañon City.
