Norman "Vic" Briar

Norman Victor (Vic) Briar, 82, of Cañon City, Colorado died Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, CO due to complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

He was born on February 21, 1943, in Newton, Kansas to Norman N. Briar and Maurine W. (Dreier) Briar. He graduated from Newton High School in 1961 and a month later joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1961 to 1965. He married Carmen K. Applegate on November 16, 1963. Following the Air Force, Vic and Carmen moved to Cañon City where Vic began working for Howard Chevrolet/Lindner Chevrolet for 39 years, until his retirement, as a Parts Manager.

Vic was a man who could fix everything, build anything, and brighten any room with his quick wit and big heart. Whether he was out in his yard, deep in a remodeling project, or working with wood in his shop, he was happiest with tools in his hands and a new project on the horizon. But above all, what truly brought him joy was the love he shared with his wife, his devotion to his children and the pride he felt for his grandchildren.

He was an active member of the Cañon City Church of Christ. He loved to lead singing and found joy and peace reading and studying his bible each morning. His faith guided him, and his humor lifted those around him.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carmen K. Applegate; son, Jeff Briar (Dana) of Foxfield, Colorado; daughter, Amy Brown (Tim) of Overland Park, Kansas; and his four grandchildren, Carly Brown, Riley Brown, Aaron Briar and Rachel Briar.

Vic was proceeded in death by his parents, Norman and Maurine Briar; sister, Sondra Berry; and brother, Stan Briar.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, at Peace Creek Cemetery in Sylvia, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity meaningful to you.
