Phyllis Jean Schlosser died peacefully on June 4th, 2023. She was born in Delta, Colorado in 1933 to Ludie and Viola Richard. As a child, she spent her summers in Grand Mesa with her little dog, Gippy. Her parents operated the Alexander Lake Lodge and the post office in the mid and late 30s.
She graduated from Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado in 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching. Her first years of work were spent in Fruita, Colorado where she spent her most enjoyable years of teaching.
The next years of her life were spent in Odgen, Utah teaching. She went on to teach 7th grade English at Englewood Unified Schools in California and retired after 21 years. She raised her daughter, Teddi Anderson, in Los Angeles during these years.
She will always be remembered as a generous and energetic individual. Once in downtown Los Angeles, she approached a destitute homeless man who was searching for food and gave him the last money that she had. Her friends, family, and neighbors will always remember her tending to her yard and flowers.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Ludie and Viola Richard, and her brother, Ludie G. Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Teddi Anderson; her granddaughter, Brandi Dieter; her niece, Diana (Ed) Jackson; and her cousins, Norman Walker and Brenda Rossman.
She always brightened up the room and made everyone smile and laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her.
