Reverend Edwin Allen McAfee, 67, of Cotopaxi, CO, passed away from his worldly home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren to go to his heavenly home on July 29, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital after a long battle with health problems.
Ed was born in 1958 in San Bernardino, CA, on September 13 to Rev. Louis and Virgie McAfee.
Ed worked for Eagle Picher for several years before becoming disabled. He was an ordained minister who traveled all over to preach the word of God. In 1982, he and his family moved to Boliver, MO, to start a church of his own. He then helped his father pastor Cana Tabernacle in Baxter Springs, KS, until his father passed away and he took over the church. He later started New Beginnings Church in Baxter Springs until his retirement in 2019, when he moved to the mountains of Colorado, where he became known as the "Mountain Man."
Ed, in his spare time, coached softball and baseball for his children. Ed was known all over and was very well liked and respected. He spent several years on the council for Baxter Springs. While living in Colorado, he became known among the Amish community. He drove for the Bishop himself and became well loved, respected, and valued by everyone who met him. He loved spending time with his TV buddy. He got to be his grandchildren's babysitter as they grew up. He loved them with all his heart.
Ed is survived by his wife, Patty, of 52 years; his children, Crystal and Josh, of Cotopaxi, CO, April McAfee of Joplin, MO; his grandchildren, Dakota (Eryn) of Westcliffe, CO, Serena McAfee of Kansas City, and Brylea of Columbus, KS; his sister, Linda Elliott of Baxter Springs, KS; his brother, Clint (Tracy) of Baxter Springs, KS; his sister-in-law, Judy Wade (Donnie) of Baxter Springs, KS; several nieces and nephews, as well as many family and friends. He is also survived by his companions, Bella and Rosebud.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Virgie; brother, David McAfee; brothers-in-law, Lynn, Merion, Buddy, Scott, Lonnie VanHoose, Charlie Thomason, and Buster (Gary) Elliott; sisters-in-law, Pearl, Fern, Geneva, and Velma; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his beloved Sheba and Duke.
