Richard “Rick” Clyde Danforth, 65, passed away on April 24, 2026, in Cañon City, Colorado. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and steadfast devotion to the people and places closest to his heart. Rick was born in Denver, Colorado, on February 11, 1961, to Patricia and Clyde Danforth.
Rick wore many hats over the years, including those of a father, grandfather, husband, brother, pastor, firefighter, and devoted caregiver to those who needed a steady hand and kind heart. Even when his work as a pastor took him to many new states, including Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, Rick remained a loyal Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, and Rockies fan (although he did become a little bit of a Kansas City Chiefs fan too). Rick also loved spending time in the mountains. Some of his happiest moments involved enjoying the Rocky Mountains while hiking or driving and listening to John Denver.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Robyn Danforth; his children, John (Kara) Danforth, Perry (Ashley) Danforth, Andrew (Karissa) Sanders, and Aaron (Heather) Sanders; his cherished grandchildren, including Lillian, Izabella, Camden, and Taylin; and his siblings, David (Lana) Danforth and Tricia Danforth.
A Celebration of Life honoring Rick will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM MST at Mountain View Park in Cañon City, Colorado. All who knew and loved him are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate. There is picnic bench seating available, but please feel free to bring a lawn chair if you would like. Attendees are also welcome to come to the celebration wearing Broncos, Avalanche, Rockies, or Chiefs apparel.
Rick’s life was a testament to service, love, faith, and family. He will be deeply missed, but the impact he made will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
