Richard Eugene Lutz, 91, of Florence, CO, passed away suddenly at his home on May 7, 2026. Richard was born in South Dakota on February 27, 1935 to Andrew & Anna Lutz. He was a middle child in a family of 8 children. He was raised in a Christian home and always loved the Lord. At the age of 16 he worked on his uncles ranch and helped with the cattle and farming. He loved it when he was pulled out of school to help with harvest.
At the age of 18 he joined the navy with his younger brother Arnold who had to have his parents consent because he wasn't old enough to join. Richard served 2 years with the airdales and 2 years on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. He was honorably discharged and went to work for one of his brothers on construction. Later he went on to own his own companies. He built the home he was living in at age 70.
Richard was a lifelong Bronco's fan and most sports . he loved the outdoors and would rather be in the mountains than anywhere. He was and excellent shooter and was proud of his achievements in sharp shooting in the Navy. When he was younger he was a hunter and at the age of 91 still liked to fish.
Richard is survived by his wife of 26 years Barbara, his son Mike Lutz (Sara), daughter Laura Mcllvian (Steve), daughter Stacy Lopez (Jose) and many grand children, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, all of his brothers and sisters and his son Andrew Lutz.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Services have been entrusted to Holt Funeral Home and there will be a graveside service on May 19th at 11:00am at Lakeside Cemetery.
