Roberta Dawes Obituary

Roberta "Bobbie" Hope Dawes, born on March 17, 1929, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, in Pueblo, Colorado, at the age of 95.

Bobbie was the beloved daughter of Byron B. Hudson and Bettie Lucile Shelley. She spent her early years on ranches in Wyoming and Colorado, where she cultivated a strong work ethic and a deep love for family. Bobbie earned her Registered Nursing degree from Texas A&M and began her career in Greeley, Colorado, later continuing her nursing journey in Honolulu, Hawaii. While in Honolulu, she met her first husband, Harry Lindberg. Together, they shared a devotion to church and youth group activities and adopted their son, Robert Carter.

Following Harry’s untimely passing, Bobbie moved to New Jersey to pursue a master’s degree in education and began teaching elementary school. A talented educator and nurse, she balanced her professional life with raising her son and exploring new adventures. Her travels took her to Japan to teach English and across Europe with Robert, creating treasured memories along the way.

In Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, Bobbie met and married Lesley Raymond Dawes in 1969. Together they built a life on a ranch in Fort Collins and adopted two daughters, Melissa and Martina. In 1976, the family settled in Salida, where Bobbie dedicated herself to homemaking, ranching, teaching Bible school, and supporting her son and daughters’ education. She later returned to nursing at health offices in Salida and Canon City before retiring in 2012 at the age of 83.

Preceded in death by her first husband Harry Lindberg; an infant son; parents; siblings Donald Hudson, Mae Pelton, and Bettie Joe Pennington; Bobbie is survived by her husband Lesley Dawes; sister Sally; children Robert Carter Dawes, Melissa Mae Holt, and Martina Hope Dawes; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A service will be held at Holt Funeral Home in Canon City on February 7 at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Wetmore New Hope Church Cemetery.

Bobbie’s unwavering faith in God shaped every aspect of her life. Her legacy of love, devotion to family, and service as a nurse will continue to inspire all who knew her.
