Roger Parsons Obituary

Roger Edward Parsons, Jr., 61, a humble servant of his community and a man of faith, was called to his eternal rest on August 2, 2024, in Canon City, CO. Born on February 16, 1963, in Jamestown, NY, Roger's life was a testament to the virtues of quiet strength, playful spirit, and boundless kindness.

Roger's family relocated from New York to Rocky Ford, CO in 1979. He was a 1981 graduate of Rocky Ford High School. After graduating, Roger's family relocated to Penrose, CO and later, Canon City, CO where they remained throughout their lives.Years later he pursued furthering his education at Pueblo Community College, Kaplan University, and Grand Canyon University, where he obtained Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees respectively in Criminal Justice. Roger cultivated a mind as keen as his heart was expansive. His early years were spent in service with his father, nurturing the family Pawn/Gun Sales Shop and working at Coast to Coast Hardware just to name a few. In 1994, Roger found his true calling as a Police Officer with the CCPD, embodying respect for all of creation through his work. Though an accident in 2005 ended his tenure, Roger's commitment to public welfare never waivered. He continued to support his community as a dedicated member of the Canon City Council  from 2010 - 2014 and through his enterprises, Big Dog Guns & Ammo and Big Dog Private Investigations. He also performed duties as a Process Server for several years up until his health curtailed him from doing so.

As a dedicated member of Canon City Free Methodist Church and later attending Faith Bible Fellowship as his health allowed, Roger lived his faith through action, serving as Trustee/Treasurer at the Free Methodist Church and exemplifying gratitude and stewardship in his religious community. His respect for God's creation was mirrored in his love for hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling. In his later years he crafted wood-burning art and he enjoyed a spirited game of Canasta with family and friends. Roger's lifelong dream became a reality when in 2005 he completed building his home he resided in until his passing.

Over the past 19 years, Roger was plagued with health issues as a result of his accident, it may have robbed him of physical abilities but it never curtailed his life motto to simply "Live life to the fullest and Make a difference along the Way". One of the biggest differences came in 2011 when he met and later married the Love of his Life, Sandy. Together they forged a bond that will never fade.

Left to honor Roger's legacy are his beloved wife & care giver of 12 years, Sandy Parsons; sons, Justin Parsons (Jenn) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Shane Parsons (Regan) of Lochbuie, CO; grandsons, Isaiah and Brayden Parsons of Pueblo West, CO; sisters, Barbara Bemis (Daniel) of Kennedy, NY, and Sandra Vuletich (John) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister in laws, Sherry Shelton of the home, Kathy Seaman Hinkle of Hastings, MI and Rosetta Lunceford (Jarrett) of Elizabethton, TN,  a loving extended family of Nieces/Nephews, Aunts/Uncles and a host of cousins. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Faith Bible Fellowship Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM, where Roger's life will be honored with reverence and joy.
