Samuel (Sam) Solon Cecil

Samuel Solon Cecil (Sam), 31, of Cañon City, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on August 31st, 2022. 

Sam was born on August 20th, 1991, in Salida Colorado. 

Sam is survived by his parents, Lester and Sue Cecil, his grandmother, Mona Patrick, and his brother and sisters, Jack Howard, Amanda Cecil, Felicia Zeleznikar (Brandon), & Angie Cecil. Aunts and Uncles Debbie & Joe Peter, Linda & Dan Slater, Berneita & Dave Stiefel, Apryll Cecil, John Walden, & Laurie Yekovich. Niece & nephews, Madison, Gavyn, Jase, & Aiden. As well as numerous cousins, their children, and his beloved German Shepherd, Riley. 

Sam attended Job Corps in Darby Montana, in 2010, where he retained his high school diploma—after which, transitioned to trade school, where he fell in love with welding. Being a certified welder allowed Sam opportunities to work on the oil rigs in Texas and North Dakota. Sam was also a correctional officer with the Colorado Department of Corrections, in addition to many contracted security jobs. Sam was a “Jack of all trades” though, and because of that also retained positions as a farm hand, maintenance worker, laborer, handyman, and construction worker at various points in his life. 

Sam enjoyed spending time with his dog, his friends, and his family. He loved teaching and playing sports with his nephews on how to fix things. He could often be found with his sisters, Felicia and Angie, as they remained close into adulthood. To know Sam was to love him. His personality, outlook on life, and sense of humor were infectious. Sam's impact on countless lives in his short time on earth will ensure his memory lives on. 

Sam is preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna MacKinnon, and uncles Travis Cecil & K.J. Yekovich.

A celebration of life will be held at Pathfinder Community Center, 6655 CO-115, Florence, CO 81226, at 11:00 am, Monday, September 12, 2022.
