Sharon Rogers Obituary

Sharon Sue Rogers, 83, peacefully went to her heavenly home on February 25, 2020.  She lived her life with love, integrity, compassion, and faith.  She cherished her family as well as her many dear friends.

Sharon was born on November 20, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Marion and Dora (Grace) Burkhart. She was proud to be one of ten children.  Her inner strength and love of family extended to all facets of her life.  She graduated from St Mary’s University in Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  She spent over forty years of her professional life as a highly-skilled licensed Registered Nurse practicing in multiple states across the nation, including specialties in intensive care, pediatrics, burns, and cardiovascular critical care.  Sharon's professional career also included creating and running a start-up restaurant, The Victorian Lady, in Georgetown, Colorado, which provided home cooked meals to locals and tourists alike.  She also worked as a licensed real estate agent and assisted in renovating homes across the Pacific Northwest and Southwest.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Sharon was a very talented seamstress, interior designer, and an avid reader with a lifelong passion for learning.  She also had an admirable appreciation for Japanese culture and traditions.  Sharon lived life to its fullest, at one point she was a certified and avid scuba diver, a competitive knife thrower and even spent time as an active motorcyclist. She never did anything half way! She had a soft spot for classic Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds movies, as well as music by Neil Diamond, John Denver, and George Strait.  Her famous "bag of tricks" consisted of a blend of traditional and homeopathic remedies for the ailments of her family and friends.  She had an ornery but good-natured sense of humor, a sharp mind, a kind touch, and a very loving heart.

Sharon is survived by her three sons: Joe (Erin) Bartko of Longmont, Jeff (Victoria) Bartko of Colorado Springs, and Brian (Tara) Bartko of East Machias, Maine; two step-daughters: Becky Hegedus of Littleton and Darby Kennedy of Highlands Ranch; as well as six siblings: Margaret Burkhart, Paula Burkhart and Philomena Rudolph of Goldendale, Washington, Linda Newman of Georgetown, CO, Cathy Lovinggood of North Mankato, MN and Danny Burkhart of Camarillo, California; and seven grandchildren. Her brothers, David and Joe, sister, Marie; and her husband, Joel Drew Rogers, preceded her in death.

Her family wishes to thank, Pastor Glenn Shock, as well as the numerous members of the First Baptist Church, and all the other area friends of hers, who provided so much support for her during her years of living in Westcliffe.  She loved you all.

Sharon's warmth and beautiful spirit will endure in all the countless lives she touched.

In accordance with her wishes, instead of a funeral, a memorial service will be held for Sharon, on Friday March 6, 2020, at 1PM, at First Baptist Church in Westcliffe, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you make a donation in her name to your favorite charity.
