Stacy Yvonne (Treherne) Petty

November 5, 1968 ~ July 12, 2022 (age 53)

Stacy Treherne Petty was born on November 5, 1968, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado to Arthur and Reba Treherne.  She was the youngest of 5 children.

Stacy graduated from Brighton High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Jim Petty.  Together they raised 3 sons, whom Stacy dearly loved. She was a fierce advocate and defender of her husband and sons.

Stacy spent the majority of her life working at JP Textures, a business she and Jim started together. She and Jim also spent many years coaching and leading a wrestling team. There they showed love and taught character beyond just wrestling. She became like a parent to the kids, some of whom came from harsh circumstances.

After living in Henderson, Colorado for 26 years, they sold their business in 2018, so that they could spend more time together. They moved to their cabin in Delilah Peak outside of Cañon City, which they named Segunda Vida (Second Life). Aptly named, Jim and Stacy set out on a whole new adventure in their marriage. They spent their time remodeling the cabin. It was becoming the culmination of the work of their lives, Jim through the skill of construction and Stacy through the creativeness in the design.

Stacy had a rare and beautiful ability to connect with people in a deep and meaningful way. She was a gifted orator and curator of ideas. No one could have a conversation with her and walk away unchanged and/or uninspired. All who sat at Stacy’s table felt a sense of belonging and love. She had a gift of hospitality and knew how to draw people in and make them feel welcomed.

Stacy was known for her intensity and did nothing half-heartedly. Music was important to Stacy, whether listening, sharing, or playing piano. She also had a passion for politics. She was dynamic in the defense of her beliefs and didn’t shy away from a good debate. She wanted others to be informed and didn’t bend to the status quo. For a brief time, she was the Director of Communications for the Libertarian Party of Colorado. To Stacy, her greatest professional accomplishments were the talk radio program she hosted for KFKA in Greeley, Colorado and podcast with DK Williams.

Stacy was in love with truth…always seeking to know and understand more. She was currently in her most joyous phase of life in being a grandmother.  She was so passionate about watching Lydia and Niko grow and wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. Stacy loved Jesus and enjoyed prayer and conversation with Him during her hikes. If you knew Stacy, you know she spent much of her time hiking. She took her last hike on July 12, 2022.

Stacy is survived by her spouse, Jim Petty; and, as she would say, “My three sons”--Derrick and Hollie Petty; Aaron and Tracy Petty; and Adam Petty. She is also survived by two beautiful grandchildren, Lydia and Niko Petty; her siblings, Tina Goodwin; Karen and Troy Perkins; Art Jr. and Jodi Treherne; and Barbara Treherne, as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Art Sr. and Reba Treherne; brother-in-law, Gary Goodwin; nephews, Cody Brown and Christopher Chase; and niece, Crystal Goodwin Snow.

The family thanks you for your comfort and prayers.
