Steven Dale Smith

Steve Smith, born December 6, 1948, in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home on September 1, 2025. A proud graduate of South High School, Steve was honored to be inducted into the South High Hall of Fame.

Steve dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to the Colorado Department of Corrections with Colorado Correctional Industries, where his passion for his work and his leadership left a lasting impact. He became the Director of CCI, retiring in December of 2014. After retirement, Steve found joy in making wine alongside his family and friends, creating many memories together.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Smith; his daughter Ericka Marquez and her husband Mark; his son Paul Smith and his wife Natalie; grandchildren Erik Powell and his wife Tina, Sydney Marquez, YeMyah Smith, and Daniel Smith; his sister Debbie Penvose; and many nieces and nephews.

Steve will be remembered for his dedication and his love for work.
