Stuart Beckett Obituary

Stuart "Stu" Beckett, 77, passed away on July 8, 2025, in Canon City, Colorado. Born on November 29, 1947, in Duluth, Minnesota, Stu lived a life marked by strength, persistence, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. Stu proudly served his country as a combat medic in the Army, in the 39th Engineer Battalion during the Vietnam War, holding the rank of Specialist 5 under 2.  His service reflected the same courage and dedication that would define every chapter of his life. After returning home, Stu built a long and respected career in the pressroom of the Duluth News-Tribune, where he rose to the position of General Foreman. Known for his tireless work ethic and steady leadership, he earned the respect of colleagues through his commitment to doing his very best in all he pursued. In 1968, Stu married Virginia (Jenny), beginning a loving partnership that would span 56 years. He was deeply proud of their enduring marriage and devoted himself wholeheartedly as a husband, father, and grandfather. Together they raised two children: Larry (Kathleen) Dahl and Kathryn (Eric) Hubbard. Stu found immense joy in being a grandfather to Quinlan, Hunter, Tristan, and Ella.  He was incredibly proud of his family. Following retirement, Stu continued to give back to others. He volunteered for five years with the Golden Shuttle in Canon City, offering transportation assistance to those in need. His generosity extended into his social life as well.  Everyone who he met became a friend.  He was a familiar face at the Elks Club in Florence every Sunday without fail.  He was a member of the VFW and the Ridge Runners 4X4 Club. Stu was a man of patience and quiet strength. He approached life with kindness and integrity and will be remembered for his steadfast nature and deep love for those around him. He is preceded in death by his parents Altah and Hugh as well as his brothers Bruce and Marshall. Stu Beckett leaves behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and enduring love. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. We will be holding a private service with our family per Stu's request; there will not be a formal public service.
