Sue Clare Nissen, 88, left to be with the Lord January 6, 2024. An ever-present pillar of strength, Sue was the cornerstone of the family, always there for her children and grandchildren alike with guidance,
advice and most of all love. Sue was a beautiful woman, with unwavering strength and a great sense of humor. Our true rock who will be greatly missed. Sue was born to Freddie and Emma Byrdene (Bromley) Nissen in Dike, Iowa on May 1, 1935. She graduated from Dike High School in 1953. Sue worked in hospitality managing hotels, restaurants, and bars which is what led her and her five children to Colorado in 1971. The beautiful mountains of
Colorado became home to the family.
There was never a craft Sue didn’t enjoy or excel at from sewing, crocheting, cross stitching, to her newest passion of jewelry making. Another favorite past time for Sue was reading, often finishing
several books a week. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim. She is survived by her five children: Carla Clark, Kendal (Cyd) Quinn, Lori Brandt, Glenda (Arnie Shranko) Schaeffer , and Brenda (Frank Petersen)
Bartlett. Sue was a very proud grandmother, granny, and gigi to ten grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, whom she loved with all of her heart.
Services will be held at Holt Chapel of the Garden, 806 Macon Ave., Canon City, CO on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 with interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, 1008 Elm Ave., Canon City, CO 81212.
