Virgil Bunten, 98, passed away June 2, 2023 in Canon City, CO. He was born in Canon City on February 16, 1925 to Robert and Clara Bunten. Virgil graduated from Canon City High School and then served in the U.S Army. In 1952, he married Margaret Ghensi, a marriage that lasted over sixty years. Virgil was a postal clerk at the Canon City Post Office, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Florence Elks, and enjoyed being social, playing his saxophone in a jazz band in his earlier years, and going out to eat. However, his greatest passions were playing golf, bowling, and especially his apple orchard. Virgil’s orchard was a life long dream fulfilled. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Virgil is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Dale) Johnson; grandchildren, Kelly (Deena) Johnson and Kari Johnson; great-grandchildren, Relic Roberts, Rexlynn Johnson and Hayden Johnson; and sister-in-laws, Irene (Dick) Brandl and Lena (Larry) Anson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Margaret in 2017. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023, 11 a.m. at Lakeside Cemetery: 1008 Elm Ave. Canon City, CO.
