Vita DiRito

Vita DiRito was born on July 24, 1928 and passed away on March 7, 2024 in Canon City, CO. Vita was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie and daughter-in-law, Vickie. Vita was born to Charles and Lena (Amicantonio) Salardino in Pueblo, CO. Vita was raised in Rockvale, CO and graduated from St. Scholastica’s Academy. Vita spent her entire life in Fremont County. Although she wore many hats during her lifetime, her main and most important focus was family. Vita married Bennie DiRito on June 30, 1948. Vita and Bennie were the proud parents of David Charles DiRito (preceded by his wife, Vickie), Pamela Rose (Jack) Laughlin and Vivian Marie (Ken) Jeffcoat. Also surviving are six grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Laughlin, Douglas Laughlin, Daniel (Nikki) Laughlin, James (James Chan) DiRito, Melissa (Franz) Knupfer, and Dara (Matt) Cullen; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Blaise and Gianna Laughlin, Katie and Caroline Laughlin, Olive Cullen and Leo Knupfer.

In her final months, Samantha had the honor of serving as one of Vita’s caregivers, always saying “Grandma it is my privilege to take care of someone who once took care of me.” Katie and Caroline were Vita’s faithful companions visiting her daily after school.

Services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Florence, CO, which is the same church where Vita and Bennie were married and all their children were baptized. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, CO.
