Wayne Meurs went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 8, 2023, in Cañon City, Colorado.
Wayne was born on August 18, 1929, in Long Island, Kansas, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. He was raised in the Christian Reformed Church and served as an elder. He enjoyed offering hospitality to many needy people. Wayne married Lois Petty on April 2, 1960, in Reno, Nevada.
Wayne proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Mountain Bell in both Colorado Springs and Silverthorne, Colorado. Later, he and his wife worked with the Wycliffe Bible Translators in Arizona before retiring to Cañon City.
Wayne loved to hunt and fish, camp and travel and, most especially, he loved spending time with his family.
Wayne is survived by his wife: Lois; children: David (Sue) Meurs of Connecticut, Jerry (Lori) Meurs of Texas, Mary (Dwayne) Prins, Tim (Carol) Meurs, and Esther (Tom) Walters, all of Colorado. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, one sister, one son and three grandchildren.
A private family burial will be held on Saturday, November 11. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Faith Bible Fellowship, 830 Pine Ave, Cañon City, Colorado.
