Wilbur Eric Sweigart, 42, of Cañon City, Colorado, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2025.
Born on November 2, 1982, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Eric was a man of anchored faith and compassionate strength. He married the love of his life, Sheila, and together they built a 21-year marriage rooted in faith, trust, and deep friendship. Side by side, they walked through life’s challenges, raising five remarkable children—Weston (20), Khloe (15), Haylee (11), Dawson (8), and Isabella (10 months). Eric was a devoted father who intentionally looked for ways to connect with each child’s heart and poured himself fully into their lives.
He is survived by his parents, Wilbur and Rhoda Sweigart of Richland, PA; his brothers, Nevin (Cherry) of Myanmar and Rodney of Cañon City CO; and his sisters, Jen (Jeremy) Hoover and Judith (Robin) Martin, both of Benton, IL. Eric’s extended family and many close friends will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Eight years ago, Eric and Sheila moved their family to Colorado to serve with New Horizons Ministries, where Eric wholeheartedly served - helping incarcerated mothers find stability, hope, and a path toward reunification with their children. He continued that heart-driven work in his role as a Case Manager for the Colorado Department of Corrections. For him, this was never just a job; it was a calling. And while we may never know the full extent of the lives he touched, we know the positive ripple effect of his life will continue long after his death.
When time allowed, Eric was also an avid outdoorsman - hiking, camping, and soaking in God’s creation. But truly, his deepest legacy lives on through his steadfast faith, his devoted marriage, his love for his children, and the many lives enriched through his calming presence, compassion, and leadership.
